The lens measures 209.6mm when retracted and just 283mm when extended to its 500mm focal length and weighs only 1725g. Zooming the lens from 150mm to 500mm only requires rotating the zoom ring through an arc of just 75, which is less than a quarter of a turn, allowing you to make rapid adjustments, while shooting, with minimal movement.
