Stores Open on Thanksgiving 2026 and Black Friday Hours

Thanksgiving 2026 store hours at a glance

Most big US chains will not be among the stores open on Thanksgiving this year. Thanksgiving 2026 is Thursday 26 November, and Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Costco, The Home Depot, Lowe's and Kohl's have all said their stores will be closed that day. Several of them keep their deals running online instead. Black Friday follows on Friday 27 November, and only a few chains have published the time their stores open.

This table holds only what each store has published itself, and labels how firm it is: confirmed for 2026, a standing policy without a 2026 statement, last year's statement only, or not published yet.

We read every source on 31 October 2026 and will update this table as more chains publish their hours before Thanksgiving. For each store's sale dates rather than its opening hours, see when Black Friday 2026 starts at each store.

Big-box and electronics stores

• Walmart: Walmart said on 7 October that its stores "will be closed again on Thanksgiving and Christmas this year". Its Black Friday Deals reach stores on Friday 27 November at 6 a.m. local time, after starting online on 23 November.
• Target: closed under the policy it announced on 22 November 2021, that its stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day moving forward. Target has not made a separate 2026 statement or published Black Friday hours.
• Best Buy: closed on Thanksgiving, with deals continuing in the Best Buy app and on BestBuy.com. Stores move to extended hours from 1 November, shown on each store's local page; a Black Friday opening time has not been published.
• Costco: its Black Friday page says Costco will be closed on Thursday 26 November 2026, and Thanksgiving is on its list of days when all US warehouses close. Costco says hours vary slightly by warehouse and are shown on its Find a Warehouse page.
• The Home Depot: its 2026 holiday hours list Thanksgiving as closed and Black Friday as open at 6 a.m., with local hours on the store locator.
• Lowe's: stores stay closed on Thanksgiving Day, Lowe's says, while customers can keep shopping online-only deals.
• Kohl's: stores are closed on Thursday 26 November and reopen at 5 a.m. local time on Friday 27 November, according to Kohl's release of 30 October.

Macy's, Sam's Club and BJ's had not published 2026 Thanksgiving or Black Friday hours on the pages we could read, and some of their sites refuse our research tools. We list them here when they do.

Grocery stores and pharmacies

None of the grocery or pharmacy chains we checked had posted 2026 Thanksgiving hours by 31 October:

• Grocery: Publix and ALDI's newsrooms had no Thanksgiving hours (ALDI's Thanksgiving news covers its meal list, which runs to 25 November). Kroger's investor site refused our request. Whole Foods and Trader Joe's had published nothing we could find.
• Pharmacies: Walgreens' holiday hub still showed last year's notice for Thanksgiving 2025: most stores closed, with 24-hour locations open for essential pharmacy services. CVS had not posted 2026 hours.

Until a chain publishes, the store's own page in its app or on its website is the place to check. One more thing to know: pharmacy counters, gas stations and other services inside a store can keep different hours from the store itself. Costco, for example, says the hours of its warehouse services such as the pharmacy and gas station are listed separately on each warehouse's details page.

Shopping online on Thanksgiving

Closed stores do not mean closed sales. These chains have said their deals carry on online on Thanksgiving Day:

• Walmart: its Black Friday Deals have been on Walmart.com since 12:01 a.m. ET on Monday 23 November.
• Best Buy: deals continue in the Best Buy app and on BestBuy.com, in the middle of its 10-day Black Friday event.
• Costco: a separate set of online-only savings dated 26 November on Costco.com.
• Lowe's: online-only deals, and MyLowe's Rewards members can shop the Black Friday Doorbusters online a day before everyone else.
• Kohl's: Black Friday doorbusters on Kohls.com from 12:01 a.m. CT on Thanksgiving Day.

Thanksgiving has become a big online shopping day in its own right. Adobe, which tracks US online spending, forecasts $6.9 billion spent online on Thanksgiving 2026, up 8.5%, with a record 63% of it on mobile devices. What time do stores open on Black Friday?

Only three of the chains above had published a Black Friday 2026 opening time when we checked:

Many websites already print Black Friday opening times for every major store. Where the store has not published one, those times do not come from the store, so treat them as a guess and check your local store's page nearer the day. How we check these hours

Every row comes from the store's own newsroom, corporate site, help pages or holiday pages, read from a US server. We note the date we read each one and label what is confirmed for 2026, what is a standing policy, and what is only last year's notice. We do not copy hours from other websites, because many still repeat 2025 times. Sites that refused our requests include Kroger's investor site (31 October) and Sam's Club's help pages and BJ's website (29 October); Kohl's release was read through a second route on 31 October.
