A pumpkin carving kit saves you from carving with a kitchen knife: the tools are small, the saws are thin enough for detail, and most kits come with stencils. We compared the pumpkin carving kits that Party City had in stock on its own website on 25 October 2026, with what each kit includes as Party City lists it. None of these kits showed a reduced price that day. We did not test the kits, and links to Party City may earn us a commission.

The 20-piece kit is the most complete: two scoops, four knives, two pens and twelve stencils for $9.99. The 10-piece Colossal kit costs $3 less and covers the basics, and Party City says its colour, green or orange, is picked at random when it ships.

The kits in detail

Full tool kits

Both full kits include a scoop for the seeds and pulp, a thin saw or knives for the outline, and stencils to trace. The 20-piece kit adds a second, smaller scoop and two pens for drawing the design onto the pumpkin first.

Carving and seed roasting kit

This kit adds a foil pan and eight recipes, so the seeds you scoop out become a snack. Party City lists it for ages 8 and up and says it is made of plastic, aluminium and metal.

Light-up and no-carve options

The Neon Ghost kit only needs a round opening: you carve it with the included carver, fit the light-up disc into the pumpkin and secure it with the swivel fasteners, and the batteries are included. For no carving at all, the glitter sticker set gives a pumpkin a face and a "trick-or-treat" message in a minute, which also works on small children's pumpkins.

Lights for carved pumpkins

The Color Changing Pumpkin Lite is a small LED that cycles through six colours. Party City says its LEDs stay cool to the touch, which it describes as safer than candles for jack-o'-lanterns.

Pumpkin carving tools: what each one does

• Scoop: scrapes out the seeds and stringy pulp; a big scoop for the inside wall, a small one for corners.
• Saw or knife: cuts the lid and the outline. Thin serrated saws cut detail better than a kitchen knife.
• Detailer: a small blade for eyes, teeth and fine lines.
• Pen or marker: draws or traces the design on the skin before you cut.
• Stencils: printed designs you tape on and trace, so the face comes out even.

Carving tools are sharp. The kits are small, but they still cut, so younger children are better off scooping and drawing while an adult does the cutting.
